Hail, savior of Bil and Hjúki
Who helps us to confront our darkness, Many-Faced!
Who helps us to pass through our darkness, Ever-Changing!
Who helps us to beat the Hati that bites at our heels!
Hail Mani Mundilfari!
I wrote this prayer for the opening of Episode 43 for The Jaguar and the Owl. For PSVL’s recap of the episode, look here.

Kvasir’s blood builds | within the poet’s mouth
Bursts forth with praise | to sky, soil, and sea
Gushes forth with foam | a font of Mimir’s well
Poured out upon the Tree
Surt’s Gift builds warm | within the stone heart
Blesses lodge with smoke | to sky, soil, and sea
Carries the recels | as Muspel’s hearth
Pours smoke out upon the Tree
The wolf-priest comes | a wineskin in hand
Whose words travel far | over sky, soil, and sea
Let all heed their cup | Kvasir’s blood travels long
To be poured upon the Tree
Comment: “Goodbye Wolves!”.
Deeply wishing that more of our farmers would understand this and work with wolves rather than seek their destruction.
Bitter is the drink | of failure and folly,
much drank before success;
Resolve is the friend | of those who do well,
for no wolf hunts in the den
Rest one must have | in regular time,
if one is to be well;
Even Ratatosk must stop | now and then His chatter
and leave the Eagle in peace
Inspired by Galina Krasskova, I will also be devoting the month of November to writing to the Allfather each day.
This first piece is written after the style of the Havamal and details an exchange when He brought me to Him.
Upon the mountain | a challenge given
Plucked the eye freely offered
Orb formed of Your flesh | pressed firmly deep
Waking the wolf within
