Odin Project: Day 30

November 30, 2012 2 comments

This is the final day of the Odin Project for this 2012 year.  Thank you to Galina, who inspired me to be part of it, and everyone who has participated in it.  Thank you to everyone who has followed my blog through this month; I hope that the Odin Project has somehow touched you, or brought you closer to Him.

Long suffered He | who traded Eye and Life

for giving wisdom to the Worlds;

Praise to the Allfather | given in gratitude

for gifts heaped upon gifts

Hail to Odin | in times of peace

for its blessings are hard-won;

Hail to Odin | in times of strife

for oft does it visit

Ever-mindful is Odin | of His children

who wanders the whole of Midgard

Hugin and Munin | ever-watch and wheel

and speak news to His waiting Ear

Easy found is war | easier to start

a lose spark which burns the home;

The burnt husk | shelters no one

save the dead dreams in ashes

Hard won is frith | harder still to make

with bitterest of foes,

Yet peace in anger | saves many a life

from strife and long-held rage

More good is found | than most believe

in love for mortal man;

For the less he loves | the more does man

turn mind against his kin

Caution bodes well | in love and wealth

for the fool is soon found without either;

Fickle is the heart | lacking in temper

and the wallet too often opened

Bitter is the drink | of failure and folly,

much drank before success;

Resolve is the friend | of those who do well,

for no wolf hunts in the den

Rest one must have | in regular time,

if one is to be well;

Even Ratatosk must stop | now and then His chatter

and leave the Eagle in peace

Blistered and burnt | becomes the tender

who sits too near the fire,

Like a speaker who gives | no space for breath

all is gasping for air

Patience and care, | more precious than gold

in raising of one’s own kin;

Oft is the test | put to the sword

to see if its edge is yet sharp

Generosity in harvest | are repaid in poor seasons

for those who carefully share;

Oft is the giver | fondly remembered

and kindness gifted in kind

A bolt on the door | never once latched

Is either a boon or a waste;

The hearth fire cools | in the air of night

though many it once had warmed

No home shall last | nor village nor clan

who constantly wars with its own;

Crows gather close | for kin who oft fight,

and feast well on the flesh
