When I Leave

December 27, 2012 Leave a comment

When I leave this flesh behind

And all memory fades of me

May the world be better for

Whose futures are to be

When I journey forth unto

The Ancestors’ old home

May Midgard hold me to Its heart

Name proudly carved upon a stone

When I leave this world behind

In dust and bone and dirt

May it be said I did my best

When I walked upon the Earth

Odin Project: Day 24

Generosity in harvest | are repaid in poor seasons

for those who carefully share;

Oft is the giver | fondly remembered

and kindness gifted in kind

A bolt on the door | never once latched

Is either a boon or a waste;

The hearth fire cools | in the air of night

though many it once had warmed

No home shall last | nor village nor clan

who constantly wars with its own;

Crows gather close | for kin who oft fight,

and feast well on the flesh

By Ash and Elm

By Root and Ice

By Water and by Flame

We call to You O Holy Ones

By all Your Holy Names

By grave and mound

By blood and bone

By flesh and by soul

We call to You O Ancestors

By Your generations manifold

By soil and seed

By scale and fur

By tooth and by nail

We call to You O Landvaettir

By Your Sacred homes we hail

By work and word

By death and life

By vow and by deed

We call to You O Holy Gods

By Your Holiness that we seek

Breathe, breathe, breathe

Life flows from lips to bark

Heart beats with reddened sap

Limbs creak and groan

Bark softens

Breathe, breathe, breathe

Knots open

Brown cambium turns grey

Rings coil and wind

Lightning leaps and plays

Breathe, breathe, breathe

Husks become hofs

Trunks flush with colors

The trees move

Uprooted limbs sway

They breathe, breathe, breathe
